I hope this message finds you well and that you had a productive first quarter of 2012. I am very happy to announce that I was awarded the 2012 ICP Infinity Award for Photojournalism for my work in Iraq and Libya. I am extremely humbled and honored to be joining this roster of talent.
I was also recently awarded the 2012 Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund to continue my iLibya project. I will be traveling back to Libya to document the growing pains of a transitioning nation. I plan to use mobile technology to photograph and disseminate my images with the premise that if such an accessible and ubiquitous tool is powerful enough to aid the spread of the Arab Spring, it should be given equal validity in news gathering and reporting.
In the last few months I have completed several assignments for various magazines including a feature on Ohio’s Long Road to Recovery for Fortune magazine.
The launch for the Iraq | Perspectives book was a success. Most notable moments were a guest appearance on CNN International and The Daily Show as well as being named one of the most notable photo books of 2011 by BJP, PDN, and Time Lightbox.
I am also proud to say that Escape, a short documentary that I worked on as DOP under the direction of my wife, Marvi Lacar, has been gaining attention and was recently awarded best documentary short at the LA Women’s International Film Festival.
Aside from my professional news, I am proudest to announce that the wife and I celebrated our 7th year anniversary and the kids are definitely alright (so far).
